What to expect
A small blood sample is taken from a vein in your arm. You may feel a brief pinch and have mild bruising. Tell the person collecting your sample if you have fainted with needles or take a blood thinner; keep pressure on the site afterward.

- IgG alone does not diagnose a new rubella infection. Exposure or a rash during pregnancy needs prompt clinical advice.
What happens next?
Discuss a nonimmune or equivocal result with your obstetric clinician. Live rubella-containing vaccines are generally given before pregnancy or postpartum, not during pregnancy.
